Autobiography prof. Tomasz Karksi
I was born on 2nd January 1939 in Zamość district (south–east part of Poland). Went to primary school in Zwierzyniec, secondary school in Zamość. In the years 1956 – 1963 I studied at Medical University in Lublin. I received medical doctor degree in 1963. During the studies I worked for 3 years in Students Scientific Orthopedic Association and later after graduation I began my orthopedic career.
In 1967, (first grade of specialization) and then in 1971 (second grade of specialization) I passed grades in orthopedics, orthopedic surgery and traumatology of the movement apparatus.
In 1972 and in 1982, I passed consecutive degrees, to receive my PhD degree and later the assistant professor title.
In 1993, I was awarded with the professor title (professor ordinaries – nomination by President of Poland).
Since 1st October 1995 (till 2009) I was the chairman of the department of Pediatric Orthopedics and Rehabilitation of Medical University in Lublin/Poland. It is the largest University Pediatric Hospital in Eastern Poland (DSK in Lublin).
I am a member of Polish Orthopedic and Traumatology Association (PTOiTr) since 1963.
For 12 consecutive years I was elected Secretary of Lublin Branch (Section) of Polish Orthopedic and Traumatology Association, for 4 years I was Vice-President of the Section and for next 4 years I was President of the Lublin Section.
I work in Editorial Board of Polish Hand Surgery, of Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics part-B (till 2004), of Biblioteka Ortopedii Dziecięcej (Pediatric Orthopedics Library) and of Journal Locomotors System-„Pohybové ústrojí“(Czech Republic).
I am a member of EPOS since 1985 and member of Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et deTraumatologie (SICOT) since 2002.
